Campfire Banana Boats – The Ultimate Easy Camping Dessert
There's something special about cooking outdoors. Whether you're camping, enjoying a summer evening in the garden or sitting around a beach bonfire, food somehow tastes even better when it's made over a fire.
Campfire Banana Boats are one of our favourite family desserts because they're incredibly easy, require hardly any preparation and are always a hit with both children and grown-ups.
One of the best things about this recipe is that everyone can make their own. Set out bowls of chocolate, marshmallows, chocolate chips, crushed biscuits and other favourite toppings, then let each person create their perfect banana boat before wrapping it in foil.
After just a few minutes over the campfire, the banana becomes wonderfully soft while the chocolate melts into a rich, gooey sauce and the marshmallows turn deliciously toasted.
It's a simple activity that gets everyone involved and creates those lovely family moments that camping is all about.
If you're planning your next outdoor adventure, don't forget to pack a few bananas, some chocolate and marshmallows. It's an easy dessert that feels like a real treat and is guaranteed to become a family favourite.
If you're looking for an easy camping dessert that everyone will love, Campfire Banana Boats are hard to beat. They're warm, gooey, chocolatey and take just a few minutes to prepare.
Simply fill a banana with your favourite sweet treats, wrap it in foil and let the campfire do the rest. It's a brilliant recipe for family camping trips, beach bonfires or evenings around the fire pit.

Cook Time
8–10 minutes
Method
- Carefully cut a slit down the length of each banana, leaving the skin on and taking care not to cut all the way through.
- Gently open the banana and fill the centre with chocolate pieces, mini marshmallows and any extra toppings you fancy.
- Wrap each banana loosely in foil, leaving a little space for the marshmallows to expand as they melt.
- Place the banana boats on the edge of a campfire or on a barbecue over indirect heat. Cook for 8–10 minutes until the chocolate has melted and the marshmallows are soft and gooey.
- Carefully unwrap (they'll be hot!) and enjoy straight from the banana with a spoon.
Top Tips
- Use bananas that are ripe but still firm so they hold their shape.
- Let everyone create their own combination of fillings.
- Try adding peanut butter, caramel sauce, crushed cookies or fresh berries for a fun twist.
- Always supervise children around campfires and use heatproof gloves when handling the foil.
