These two-tone Valentine biscuits are a real favourite with little bakers. Swapping the shapes between the doughs feels almost like magic, and the finished biscuits look so impressive even though they’re surprisingly simple to make. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, party bags, or a calm, creative baking moment at home.
Ingredients

125g butter (softened)

100g caster sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

250g plain flour

Pink food colouring

Heart or butterfly cutters

Baking tray

Baking paper
Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Mix the butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms.

Divide the dough into two equal parts.

Colour one half pink and knead gently until the colour is even.

Roll out both doughs to the same thickness.

Cut shapes from one dough and the same shapes from the other.

Swap the shapes, press gently into place, and transfer to the baking tray.

Bake for 10–12 minutes, until just lightly golden.

Leave to cool before handling.
