Cookie counting game

🍪 Cookie Counting Game

Bake a batch of mini cookies, then use them to practise counting and number recognition with this fun, edible activity!

You'll Need

For the Mini Cookies

  • 125g unsalted butter, softened
  • 75g caster sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 200g plain flour
  • 50g chocolate chips (optional)

How to Make It

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Beat the butter and sugar together until light and creamy.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract and egg yolk.
  4. Stir in the flour until a soft dough forms.
  5. Fold through the chocolate chips if using.
  6. Roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a marble, and place them onto the baking tray.
  7. Gently flatten each one with your fingertips.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, until lightly golden around the edges.
  9. Leave to cool completely.

Cookie Counting Game

  1. Place the Cookie Counting sheet on the table.
  2. Read each number together.
  3. Count out the correct number of mini cookies and place them on the matching circles.
  4. Once you've completed the game... enjoy eating your cookies!

Top Tip: Mix up the challenge by asking your child to find the biggest number, count backwards, or add two groups of cookies together for even more learning through play! 🍪🔢
