Rice Cake Animals Recipe - SNACKTIVITY: DAY 2 OF 28

🕒 Ready in 15 minutes
(5 minutes prep · 10 minutes fun)

Today’s Snackitivity? It’s Rice Cake Animals! Let your little ones build, name, and snack on their fruity-faced friends. Whether it's a bunny, a bear, or a totally made-up creature with spaghetti whiskers, this activity is bursting with creativity, laughter—and no baking required!

Ingredients

Here’s what you need (but they’ll take it from there!):

  • 🧁 Rice cakes – plain or lightly salted

  • 🥜 Peanut butter or Greek yoghurt (or any spread you like)

  • 🍌 Banana slices – for eyes, ears, or snouts

  • 🍓 Strawberries, halved – perfect as pointy ears

  • 🫐 Blueberries – for eyes or noses

  • 🍇 Raisins, halved grapes, or other fruit you have to hand

  • 🍝 Uncooked spaghetti strands – for silly whiskers!

  • ✨ And of course… a big spoonful of imagination

Method

  1. Spread the base:
Let your child spread a generous layer of peanut butter or yoghurt onto the rice cake.

  2. Create a face:
Add banana slices for eyes or a snout, blueberries for the nose and eyes, strawberries for ears, and break spaghetti strands for whiskers.

  3. Make it a game:
Encourage them to name their animal creation before they munch it!

  4. Snap a pic!
Share their masterpiece before it disappears—those faces don’t last long 😂

Serving Suggestions

  • Great as a lunchbox treat or afternoon snack

  • Set up a “Snackivity Station” with bowls of fruit and spreads

  • Pair with a fruit smoothie for a colourful after-school boost

Storage Tips

These are best eaten fresh! If needed, you can pre-slice fruit and store it in airtight containers in the fridge, but assemble right before eating to keep the rice cakes crisp.

Easy Variations

  • Allergy-friendly: Use sunflower seed butter or dairy-free yoghurt as a spread

  • Go sweet or savoury: Try hummus with cucumber and cherry tomato faces!

  • Theme it: Bunny day, jungle animals, or even mythical monsters

FAQs

Can I use flavoured rice cakes?
Yes, but stick to mild flavours like lightly salted or plain for best taste combos.

Is uncooked spaghetti safe?
Yes—as a fun, edible decoration, just remind little ones not to chew the hard strands too quickly.

Can older kids join in?
Absolutely—it’s a great after-school wind-down activity for all ages!

Tip

🍽️ Pop everything into little bowls and let them serve themselves! It turns snack time into a hands-on activity—and you’ll be amazed at what they create.
